Adele would love this.

Adele would love this.

It’s a month until Christmas and as a maker, life is chaos.  Between fulfilling wholesale orders,  selling at weekend craft markets (who signed us up for these markets anyways? Oh wait a minute, that could have been me :) and replenishing stock I find myself working alone in the studio with only the radio for company. (Little Blooms is typically on the other side of the studio in another office).  Sometimes I even dance to a peppy song.

So naturally I am hearing Adele’s epic voice on a consistent basis.  And when I am procrastinating researching on Facebook, I do watch the Jimmy Fallon interviews with her.  So I feel like Adele and I are becoming fast friends (although she may not realize this AT ALL.)  Packing up this luscious face kit today I thought to myself “hey, Adele has beautiful skin, if she was my BFF I would definitely send this to her”.  What’s not to love?  Its got all the essentials to get you through the holiday frenzy, late nights and perhaps imbibing in the festive cheer of your choosing.

Pampering Face Love Kit
Our organic face rehab with charcoal & dead sea mud to pull the impurities from your skin, followed up by a refreshing toner of either Neroli or Rose, follow this with a delicate application of our organic rose geranium face nourish and save the Azulene for night time skating or evenings après ski.  Instead of a fragrance that can irritate, I spray a light mist of the toner on my hair before heading out the door for a subtle scent.

Pampering Face care Kit
This is a limited edition kit, we’re only releasing a small number of these treasures for $75.00 CAD dollars (plus shipping).  And if you’re a friend of Adele’s, let us know and I’d be happy to send her a kit from her new BFF.

I'm All About That Butter, Bout That Butter

I’m All About that Butter, Bout That Butter

Ghanaian women have used the wild Shea Butter fruit for years. They use it to protect themselves from the intense heat and hot dry winds coming from the Sahara. Their skin looks fantastic so it’s no wonder this fruit has gotten such a good reputation.  The shea butter we use is completely unrefined and wild crafted by the Wali women in Ghana.

Shea Butter is used for it’s emollient and moisturizing benefits. It’s rich in vitamins and penetrates deeply into the skin leaving a smooth, satiny finish.  The natural version has a slightly nutty smoky odour and is usually a golden yellow colour with darker spots in it.

Did you know that shea butter has been used for years to help heal scars, sores, burns, psoriasis, dandruff and stretch marks.  It contains cinnamic acid, a substance that helps protect against UV rays. It is high in Vitamin A which can help with blemishes and wrinkles.

While some people don’t like the smell of the natural unrefined shea butter I quite like the nutty smoky aroma. The type we use has a smoky scent as it’s heated over the fires in Ghana. With essential oils added you are left with a beautiful subtle scent.

Here are my top reasons to use Shea Butter:
1.     Works wonders on dry skin.
2.     Helps soothe rashes.
3.     Can be used on sunburns to soothe sun damaged skin
4.     Many use it on stretch marks
5.     Helps itchy skin
6.     Protect skin against sun and wind which is how the women in Ghana use it.
7.     It’s ultra moisturizing
8.     Helps dry dull lifeless hair

Here is a recipe I found: Use a small amount like a teaspoon and apply evenly all over your hair.  Wrap hair in warm towel and leave on for 20-30 minutes. Shampoo as usual and apply Shea Butter again if your hair is really dry or damaged.
I make no medical claims about Shea Butter. This information is based on my research.

DIY Saturday Etched Spoons

DIY Etched Spoons

Taken from and photos via designmom.com

A few warnings:
As a warning, it does get crazy hot and can 1) burn skin, 2) burn a whole through clothing and 3) make burn marks on anything it comes into contact with. Only two of these items are inspired by personal experience and I’m embarrassed enough not to tell you which two. : ) So please be careful!
That said, don’t be intimidated. It was actually really easy to work with. Just be careful, and when you aren’t actively using it, rest it on a surface that won’t burn. And of course, make sure to unplug it when you are finished.
There is a chance that when you finish, you will smell like burned wood. So crack a window, turn on a fan and pretend you’re enjoying a bonfire. The result is well worth it.

Supplies:
- Wooden spoons. Check your local dollar store or get some sturdier ones.
- Etching Tool
Heat up the etching tool (it looks like this) and get to burning. Any design will do.
You can doodle anywhere you'd like! The design can continue onto the the parts of the utensil that will come in contact with food. Draw on the handle. Draw on the head. Draw on the whole thing! Dots, lines, hatch marks. The sky is the limit.

You don't need templates just your imagination. You can use these designs as a reference, or free hand a design. If you are more comfortable, you can trace a design or use a pencil to sketch on the spoon what you intend to do first. Then put the tool to the wood and make it come true.

If you want, make a little symbol, like an artist’s signature, somewhere on the spoon (designmom used her signature heart), because it’s a piece of art! Then tie them up with a ribbon and the gift is ready.

You could gift these as teacher's gifts, birthdays, anniversaries, wedding gift etc.

I'd love to see what you come up with if you try it.

Back To The Beginning

Back To The Beginning

It’s interesting the way life works. Years ago when we moved to Victoria, I had a group of friends who were all artists like me. I even started a “Dead Poet’s Society” gathering  (we had a different name but at this point in time I can’t remember what we called it) in our back yard complete with a tent and tiki torch where we would all get together to read poetry. There were many friends there that day and Randy came when he could. He was my age, very wise and I always appreciated his input.

Years went by and I didn’t see Randy anymore. I went off to university and moved through many different phases of my life. I always knew Randy was in Victoria but our paths didn’t really cross. Then about a year ago Randy came to one of the markets my sister and I were selling at and it was so nice to see him. I didn’t think anything of it at the time and wondered if our paths would cross again.

Then about 8 months ago my family and I had gone through a really difficult time. We were part of a group of people we really cared about and suddenly there was a dramatic change and everything became fractured and broken.
The story isn't that important now in hindsight. The point is we were all reeling from this experience and felt very isolated and alone.  It was Randy that came back into our lives and encouraged us, met us for coffee and offered wise words of wisdom.  He spoke into our lives and really breathed new life into me and helped me realize my potential. Now we are good friends again and I marvel at the fact that he knew me way back when and was a part of a special poetry group I started. Not many people know that side of me and it was wonderful to reconnect with an old friend.

Has life surprised you lately with it’s twists and turns?
